How to enable “Delivery” and “Read” confirmation in Mac Mail

 

Many of users who used to work in corporate environment need e-mail delivery confirmation. Especially it is very useful if you sending something very important. For example: you are sending email with reviewed legal documents, you want to be sure your lawyer will received it.

As we know Mac Mail did not support delivery and read receipt with out tweaking app settings. And it is easy like walk in the central park. Open Terminal (you can find it in /Applications/Utilities) and enter following PLEASE do not forget to change your_email@somewhere.com to your real e-mail address:

defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{"Return-Receipt-To" = "your_email@somewhere.com"; "Disposition-Notification-To" = "your_email@somewhere.com"; }'

If you want to verify settings you can enter following command in terminal

defaults read com.apple.mail UserHeaders
