SPRINT 3G Network Is Too Slow to be Used with Apple iPhone 4S
SPRINT 3G too slow, to be useful
Slow 3G network issue has been reported by SPRINT customers on October 14th, 2011 [iPhone 4S first day of sale]. And since that day service outages, slow network instances were frequent and became a nuisance for many Sprint users. Inside you can find a short manual on how to prepare your iPhone 4S for network speed test, how to conduct the test, and what SPRINT customer service representative will ask you.
Data speed promised by SPRINT regarding sprint coverage map
First of all: If your 3G network is slow – pickup the phone and call Sprint CS, ask for a supervisor and open a case. To open a case regarding slow network speed you will be asked to provide certain information.
Before calling Sprint, you need to perform network and PRL reset on your iPhone. Go to Settings :
- disable Wi-Fi
- reset iPhone Network Settings
- Now you have to update PRL. Please open PHONE and dial ##UPDATE# then press “Call”. When the device asks you for confirmation press OK.
Only after theses steps are completed, the Speedtest can be executed. FYI: Sprint will not recognize results from any other applications!
You can check test the result log and export it as an email attachment.
After running the speedtest, double-click on the Phone icon and go to Keypad, dial *3001#12345#* .
You will need following the information:
- Signal strength.
- Click on the 1xEV-DO and check two fields Rx AGC0 and PIN Offset.
Sprint CS or a network support team member will ask you to do all these steps and collect information.
To open the case with Sprint tech department (engineers) call this phone – (866) 984-4962. I will recommend you to call them after 7 days from the case the case opening (reopening) date and ask them for an update (case status) then give them updated information from Speedtest App.
Build your database with speed test results by running test at list twice a day (in the morning and evening). Run it twice each time, first time w/o resetting Network and PRL, and then reset everything and rerun test. Your data log is very important DO NOT forget to send it to yourself every weekend.
Sprint did improve their service several times, it got up to 1.6/1 Mbps download/upload speed, but then it suddenly dropped to 0.1/0.2 again.
For New York metro area due date for problem resolving – February 28th, 2012.
